If you are searching for the newest cruise ships, Norwegian Luna is one of the most talked about launches from Norwegian Cruise Line. Designed as part of the next generation Prima Class, this ship brings a more modern, spacious and flexible cruise experience.
Our Marketing Manager, Jess Hartley, recently stepped on board Norwegian Luna ahead of its launch, giving a real first look at what passengers can expect. What stood out straight away was not just the design, but how the ship actually feels to move around.
After stepping onboard, the difference is obvious. Norwegian Luna is not just new. It feels like a natural evolution in how a cruise ship works.

What Is Norwegian Luna
Norwegian Luna is one of the latest ships from Norwegian Cruise Line, designed to build on the success of Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva.
Rather than completely changing the concept, the focus is on refining it. That means more usable space, better flow and an overall experience that feels more relaxed from the moment you step onboard.
This approach makes Norwegian Luna feel familiar, but noticeably improved.

What Makes Norwegian Luna Different
Norwegian Luna stands out because it improves the parts of cruising that matter most.
Firstly, space feels more considered. Walkways are wider, outdoor areas feel easier to access and there is a natural flow throughout the ship.
Secondly, dining continues to follow Norwegian Cruise Line’s freestyle concept. You can eat when you want, where you want, without fixed times or formal structure.
In addition, entertainment remains a key part of the experience, with a mix of large productions and smaller venues that give you flexibility each evening.
How Norwegian Luna compares to other NCL ships
Norwegian Luna builds on the success of Norwegian Prima and Norwegian Viva, rather than replacing them. The overall design will feel familiar if you have sailed on these ships before, but with refinements that improve space, flow and comfort.
Instead of major changes, the focus is on making the experience feel easier and more relaxed across the ship. If you are deciding between ships, it is worth reading our full Norwegian Prima vs Norwegian Viva comparison to understand the differences in more detail.
First impressions of Norwegian Luna: space changes everything
The biggest surprise on Norwegian Luna is how calm it feels.
Jess described her first impression as “light, open and surprisingly relaxed” for a ship of this size.
You expect crowds. You expect noise. Instead, the ship feels open from the moment you walk into the atrium. Light pours in, walkways feel wider and nothing feels rushed.
Even on sea days, Jess noted there was still space around the pool decks, without the usual early morning rush to secure a sunbed.
The “La Luna” hull artwork also gives the ship a distinct identity that feels modern rather than generic.

Onboard experience: energy when you want it, quiet when you don’t
What Norwegian Luna does well is balance.
If you want energy, it is there. Jess spent time at Bulls Eye Bar, where interactive darts add something different, and found Syd Norman’s Pour House to be one of the busiest evening venues.
However, the real strength is how easy it is to step away from that.
The Observation Lounge stands out during the day. It feels calm, comfortable and never overcrowded. Infinity Beach offers a quieter space that still feels connected to the ship.
Ocean Boulevard is where everything connects. You naturally end up there without planning to. It wraps around the ship, giving uninterrupted sea views, places to sit and direct access to food.
And then there is the Oceanwalk. Even Jess admitted it gives you that moment of hesitation when you look straight down through the glass.

Cabins: better thought through than most cruise ships
Cabins on Norwegian Luna feel designed for how people actually travel.
Jess stayed in a Family Balcony cabin and found it more spacious than expected. There is room to move, the sofa bed works well and storage is genuinely usable.
The bathrooms are also a clear upgrade, feeling modern and more practical than what you would usually expect at sea.
Where Norwegian Luna really stands out is for solo travellers.
Jess highlighted the Solo Balcony cabins as one of the biggest improvements. Removing the single supplement makes this one of the most appealing ships for solo cruising.
Access to the Studio Lounge adds flexibility. It gives solo travellers a space to meet or relax without pressure.

The Haven: a completely different experience
Step into The Haven and the experience changes.
Jess described it as “a private retreat within the ship”.
It is quieter, more exclusive and far more personal. The private restaurant, sun deck and dedicated spaces create a clear separation from the rest of the ship.
The biggest difference is the service. Having a butler changes how you experience the cruise, making everything feel easier.

Dining: more flexible, less traditional
Dining on Norwegian Luna feels more modern than traditional cruise setups.
Jess highlighted Indulge Food Hall as a standout feature. Instead of walking around a buffet, you order a mix of dishes and they are brought to you.
It feels more relaxed and easier to enjoy.
For something more premium, Cagney’s Steakhouse, Hasuki and Onda all deliver a dining experience closer to land-based restaurants.

Entertainment: what is actually worth your time
Entertainment feels updated for how people want to spend evenings.
“ELTON: A Celebration of Elton John” is a full production. Jess described it as high energy and visually impressive.
“HIKO” offers something different, blending acrobatics with a more artistic style.
It avoids the repetition often found on longer cruises.
The feature everyone talks about
The Aqua Slidecoaster is the headline attraction.
Jess described it as one of the most exciting features onboard, combining the speed of a rollercoaster with the unpredictability of a waterslide.
It is one of the few features that genuinely influences booking decisions.
Is Norwegian Luna worth it
Norwegian Luna stands out because it improves how cruising feels overall.
Jess’s final impression was simple. It feels easier, more spacious and better thought through than many ships currently sailing.
That balance is what makes Norwegian Luna one of the strongest new cruise ships right now.
