This coastal metropolis in Florida is a hub of activity, boasting a list as long as your arm of popular attractions and things to see and do – from atmospheric festivals to tropical beaches, cultural events, and a thriving food and art scene. Since Miami is nestled between fast-paced America and the laid-back Caribbean, it’s a destination that offers something for everybody, whether you want to tick off tourist landmarks on your itinerary or simply laze on the tropical white sands.

If you do make it beyond the beaches it’s so famous for, be sure to wander the ultra-cool Ocean Drive and admire its colourful Art Deco buildings and first-class eateries, or head to Little Havana, Miami’s Cuban quarter for a taste of charming local culture and Spanish-style alfresco bars. Like the peace and quiet? Believe it or not, Miami boasts this too; visit the Everglades National Park and whizz through the coastal mangroves on an airboat, keeping your eyes peeled for wildlife as you go.

With fantastic weather, particularly during the spring months, it’s a fantastic place to visit if you want to soak up the hustle and bustle of city life before floating around the Caribbean Islands on a relaxing cruise…

When is the best time to cruise from Miami?

The best time to cruise from Miami is during spring, when you’ll experience Miami’s – and the Caribbean’s – best weather, with plenty of sunshine and little chance of rain. If you’re cruising around the Caribbean, December through to April is peak season to travel, while May is slightly cheaper (while still boasting blissful weather) since it’s the start of the shoulder season.

Which cruise lines sail from Miami?

Crowned as the cruise capital of the world, pretty much every single cruise line sails from Miami at some point through the year. So you can travel wherever, whenever you like!

Where do cruises from Miami go to?

Cruises departing from Miami offer a range of itineraries, including trips to the Eastern Caribbean, Western Caribbean, Southern Caribbean, Bahamas and Florida Keys, as well as transatlantic crossings and Panama Canal journeys. Passengers can explore popular destinations such as the Bahamas, U.S. Virgin Islands, Mexico, Belize, Honduras, the Cayman Islands, Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, and more. Whether seeking tropical beaches, cultural experiences, or epic ocean crossings, Miami serves as a bustling hub for cruise ships heading to diverse and exciting destinations in the Caribbean and beyond.

What should you do whilst you’re in Miami?

Holidays to Miami extend far beyond days lounging on its iconic sands (although it would be all too easy to do just that while you’re here). If you have an appreciation for art, head to the Wynwood Arts District where you’ll find an outdoor museum hosting over 50 vibrant street-art murals scribbled across its famous Walls. If you’re a self-confessed foodie, head to the Time Out Market in South Beach for some of the best dining in the city, with a plethora of chef-ready dishes, restaurants, and street food sure to satisfy those rumbles – visit during happy hour or go for bottomless brunch on the weekends. Similarly, the Wine and Food Festival between February and May is a must for fantastic food, celebrity chefs and events including dinners and seminars.

Like to shop? If the answer is yes, then Lincoln Road should be at the top of your itinerary. Nicknamed “Fifth Avenue of the South”, you’ll find everything you could possibly imagine along this sophisticated stretch, with chic boutiques, upscale retail stores, pop-up stalls and artisan markets plus a selection of cafes and lounges, too. Like to admire the finer things in life? Head to Miami Design District, where you’ll discover glamorous open-air shopping malls, awe-inspiring architecture, art galleries and museums to browse.

Got the kids in tow? Head to the amazing Zoo Miami for a fantastic family day out, where you can spot over 2000 wild animals, with open-air exhibits and exciting attractions including camel rides!

Extend your stay?

Want to stay an extra day or two? While you’re in Miami, you can escape the city and take a road trip down to the Florida Keys, a string of tropical islands between the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico where you’ll find spectacular beaches with white sands and a selection of snorkelling and scuba diving. After a day on the sand, head to Key West’s famous Duval Street, packed with atmospheric bars and restaurants. Or, if nature is more your bag, why not spend time exploring the Everglades? The Everglades National Park is a 1.5 million-acre wetlands preserve brimming with coastal mangroves, marshes, and an abundance of wildlife to admire.
