Oceania Sonata: Everything You Need to Know About the New Sonata Class Ship

The luxury cruise world is preparing for its next great crescendo. Oceania Cruises has officially announced Oceania Sonata, the first ship in its all-new Sonata Class, set to debut in August 2027. Designed to be the most spacious and amenity-rich vessel in the fleet, Oceania Sonata represents a bold evolution of the brand’s signature blend of refined luxury, culinary excellence, and destination-focused travel.

From an unprecedented expansion of suite accommodations to innovative new dining concepts and a serene adults-only atmosphere, Oceania Sonata is poised to redefine what sophisticated cruising looks like at sea.

Launch Dates & Inaugural Season Itineraries

Oceania Sonata’s maiden voyage is scheduled for 7 August 2027, departing Rome (Civitavecchia) for a 14-day itinerary ending in Trieste. The ship will operate 22 cruises in its inaugural season, primarily in the Mediterranean, with a mix of classic coastal destinations and longer voyages.

A key highlight for UK guests is the 10-day Barcelona-to-Southampton sailing on 30 August 2027, followed by a 10-day Southampton-to-Lisbon cruise on 15 September 2027. After the Mediterranean season, Oceania Sonata will reposition across the Atlantic to Miami in November 2027, where it will begin a series of Caribbean itineraries.

One standout voyage is a 16-day Miami to Los Angeles cruise, featuring a daylight transit of the Panama Canal and stops in Grand Cayman, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and several Mexican ports. As the first of four ships in the Sonata Class, Oceania Sonata sets the tone for the next generation of luxury cruising from Oceania Cruises.

Redefining the Suite Life at Sea

Oceania Sonata Suites: Redefining the Suite Life at Sea

One of the most headline-grabbing elements of the Oceania Sonata launch is its radical rethinking of onboard accommodations. In a fleet-first move, approximately 33% of all accommodations on Oceania Sonata will be suites, setting a new benchmark for space and comfort in luxury cruising.

Every stateroom and suite will feature a private, spacious veranda, ensuring that all guests enjoy uninterrupted ocean views and seamless indoor-outdoor living.

Introducing All-New Suite Categories

Oceania Sonata debuts two entirely new suite categories alongside dramatic upgrades to existing favourites:

Horizon Suite

The Horizon Suite is a brand-new category created to bridge the gap between Penthouse Suites and Oceania Suites. These 50 suites, each spanning over 600 square feet, were ingeniously designed by combining the footprint of two standard staterooms.

Key features include:

  • Separate living and bedroom areas
  • Walk-in wardrobe
  • Oversized private veranda
  • Elevated residential-style layout ideal for longer voyages

Penthouse Deluxe Suite

Another new addition, the Penthouse Deluxe Suite, offers 488 square feet of refined luxury across 82 suites. These accommodations feature:

  • Oversized living areas
  • Floor-to-ceiling glass doors
  • Expansive private verandas

They deliver a noticeable step up in space while maintaining the intimate feel Oceania is known for.

Reimagined Owner’s Suite

The true showstoppers aboard Oceania Sonata are the four spectacular Owner’s Suites. Located on the aft corners of Decks 10 and 11, each suite spans an astonishing 2,500+ square feet.

For the first time on an Oceania ship, these suites feature:

  • Two full bedrooms
  • Spa-inspired marble bathrooms
  • Expansive living and dining areas
  • Sweeping 180-degree panoramic ocean views

Designed for guests who desire the ultimate expression of luxury at sea, the Owner’s Suites set a new standard not only for Oceania Cruises but for the luxury cruise market as a whole.

Suite Privileges

All suites aboard Oceania Sonata, including Horizon, Vista, Penthouse, and Owner’s Suites, come with:

  • Dedicated butler service
  • In-suite Illy coffee machines
  • Priority services and elevated onboard privileges

Oceania Dining

A New Culinary Rhythm: Dining Aboard Oceania Sonata

True to Oceania’s reputation for offering “The Finest Cuisine at Sea,” Oceania Sonata will feature ten dining venues, including two brand-new culinary concepts that are already generating significant excitement.

La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France

Set to become one of the most exclusive dining experiences at sea, La Table par Maîtres Cuisiniers de France will seat just 18 guests per evening.

This intimate venue will showcase:

  • Menus created by Master Chefs of France
  • Highly personalised, multi-course tasting experiences
  • Meticulously curated wine pairings

For serious food lovers, this promises to be a once-in-a-voyage highlight.

Nikkei Kitchen

Making its debut on Oceania Sonata, Nikkei Kitchen celebrates the vibrant fusion of Peruvian flavours and Japanese culinary techniques.

Expect bold, contemporary dishes featuring:

  • Fresh seafood
  • Bright citrus notes
  • Spicy peppers and umami-rich ingredients

The atmosphere will be energetic yet refined, offering a striking contrast to Oceania’s more classic dining rooms.

Returning Guest Favourites

Beloved signature venues will also return, including:

  • The Grand Dining Room
  • Polo Grill
  • Red Ginger
  • Toscana

Casual dining spaces such as Baristas and the Bakery are being significantly expanded, with more outdoor seating and panoramic ocean views, enhancing the relaxed elegance Oceania guests love.

Design, Space, and an Adults-Only Atmosphere

Currently under construction at Fincantieri in Italy, Oceania Sonata has been designed to balance grand social spaces with intimate, private enclaves.

A standout architectural feature is the new multi-deck grand atrium, which will rise all the way to the top of the ship. Crowned by a skylight, it will flood the interior with natural light—an evolution from the two-deck atriums found on earlier Oceania vessels.

Adults-Only Cruising (18+)

Oceania Sonata will also debut under the brand’s new adults-only (18+) policy. Effective for bookings made after January 7, 2026, this transition reflects Oceania’s commitment to creating a more tranquil, sophisticated onboard environment.

The adults-only concept aligns perfectly with Sonata’s emphasis on serenity, space, and refined travel experiences.

Oceania Sonata Itineraries and Booking Dates

Although Oceania Sonata will not set sail until summer 2027, anticipation is already building.

Key dates to know:

  • Inaugural season itineraries revealed: January 21, 2026
  • Bookings open to the public: January 28, 2026

These first voyages are expected to be in high demand, particularly among repeat Oceania guests and luxury cruise enthusiasts.

Final Thoughts: A True Masterpiece in the Making

With its dramatically expanded suite offerings, innovative new dining venues, elegant design, and refined adults-only atmosphere, Oceania Sonata is shaping up to be a true masterpiece of modern luxury cruising.

As the first ship in the Sonata Class, it sets the tone for the future of the brand—where space, cuisine, and sophistication take centre stage.

If you’ve been waiting for the next evolution of luxury at sea, the symphony is about to begin.
