It’s official, Norwegian Cruise Line has today revealed that the godfather of their groundbreaking new ship, Norwegian Viva, will be a world-famous Multiplatinum Star and “Despacito” singer Luis Fonsi. Once again Norwegian Cruise Line is breaking the gender stereotype by having a Godfather to their newest ship. Norwegian Viva will join her sister ship Norwegian Prima making her the second out of six Prima-class ships in the Norwegian Cruise Line fleet.
Not only will Luis Fonsi fulfil the longstanding maritime tradition of blessing and officially naming Norwegian Viva, he will also perform and bless the ship during the naming ceremony taking place at one of the busiest cruise ports in the world, PortMiami in Florida on the 28th of November 2023, before Norwegian Viva sets sail on a selection of bucket-list-worthy Greek Isles and Mediterranean voyages through November, before homeporting in San Juan, Puerto Rico in December 2023 for a season of Caribbean itineraries.
Luis Fonsi will join an elite club of Norwegian Cruise Line godparents. Pop icon Katy Perry named Norwegian Viva’s sister ship Norwegian Prima last year, grammy award winner Kelly Clarkson named Norwegian Encore, whilst Sex and the City star, Kim Cattrall, is godmother to Norwegian Dawn. The iconic New York group, The Rockettes, are godmothers of Norwegian Breakaway, whilst sister ship Norwegian Getaway can count on the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders as official godmothers. The cruise line broke the gender stereotype for the first time when “Mr Worldwide” himself, Pitbull, became the godfather of Norwegian Escape in 2015. We are thrilled to welcome Latin music icon Luis Fonsi to the NCL family as Godfather of Norwegian Viva and to join us as we christen our newest ship. Miami, our hometown, is immersed in Latin culture, and we want to celebrate Norwegian Viva’s debut with an infusion of Latin talent headlined by Luis. As a native Puerto Rican, who is also based in Miami, he brings people together from around the world with his energy, positivity and music, making him the perfect complement to the vibrant energy of Norwegian Viva. We cannot wait for him to join us as we celebrate this milestone moment later this year.
