AmaWaterways River Cruises set the benchmark for luxury river cruising. If you want personalised service, exceptional dining and immersive cultural experiences, this award winning river cruise line delivers across Europe, Asia, Africa and South America.

Who Are AmaWaterways?

AmaWaterways are a luxury river cruise line founded in 2002. The company operates more than 25 custom-designed river ships across Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. Known for award-winning dining, wellness programmes and immersive shore excursions, AmaWaterways has become one of the most respected names in river cruising.

Why Choose AmaWaterways River Cruises?

AmaWaterways River Cruises focus on quality over volume. Ships feel spacious rather than crowded. Service feels attentive rather than formal. As a result, guests enjoy a relaxed but refined atmosphere throughout their journey.

Dining plays a central role onboard. Notably, AmaWaterways is the only river cruise line inducted into La Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, a prestigious gastronomic society. Chefs create regionally inspired menus using fresh ingredients, while every sailing includes access to The Chef’s Table speciality restaurant. In addition, guests enjoy unlimited wine and beer with lunch and dinner, which enhances the overall experience.

Equally important, wellness remains a priority. AmaWaterways introduced complimentary bicycles across its fleet, allowing guests to explore riverside towns independently or join guided cycling tours. Furthermore, most ships carry a dedicated Wellness Host who leads yoga, stretching and fitness sessions. Consequently, these cruises appeal to travellers who prefer to stay active while exploring Europe and beyond.

Sustainability also guides the company’s long term vision. Currently, eighteen ships in the European fleet hold Green Award certification for environmental performance and safety standards. Therefore, guests can travel knowing the cruise line takes responsible cruising seriously.

The AmaWaterways Fleet

AmaWaterways operates more than 25 custom designed river ships, and each vessel sails on a river suited to its size and layout. Because the company builds ships for specific waterways, guests benefit from better views, smarter design and more usable space.

Across Europe, most ships feature the signature Twin Balcony stateroom. This design combines a French balcony with a full step out balcony, so guests can enjoy fresh air and uninterrupted river views directly from their suite.

AmaMagna sails exclusively on the Danube and stands apart from traditional river ships. She measures twice the width of most vessels on European rivers. As a result, guests enjoy multiple dining venues, a spacious wellness studio, outdoor fitness areas and even a full size pickleball court. Consequently, many travellers consider her one of the most innovative ships in river cruising.

Beyond Europe, AmaWaterways River Cruises expand into more exotic destinations. On the Mekong, the ships reflect French Colonial influences and regional craftsmanship. Meanwhile, on the Nile, purpose built vessels combine elegant design with expert led archaeological excursions. In Africa, the Zambezi Queen delivers a safari focused river experience along the Chobe River. Soon, new ships will begin sailing Colombia’s Magdalena River, opening an entirely new region to luxury river cruising.

AmaWaterways River Cruise Destinations

AmaWaterways River Cruises explore some of the world’s most iconic waterways, and each journey is carefully designed to reflect the character of the region.

In Europe, Danube River Cruises sail through the heart of the continent, linking grand capitals such as Budapest and Vienna with picturesque riverside towns. Meanwhile, Rhine River Cruises travel between Amsterdam and Basel, passing through the dramatic Rhine Gorge where medieval castles overlook steep vineyard covered hillsides.

Further south, Douro River Cruises reveal the terraced valleys of northern Portugal, while Rhône River Cruises showcase the flavours and landscapes of Provence and Burgundy. Similarly, Bordeaux River Cruises focus on the Garonne and Dordogne rivers, offering access to some of France’s most celebrated wine regions.

In the spring, Amsterdam & Belgium Cruises highlight tulip season at its most colourful, combining historic cities with blooming countryside. At the same time, Seine River Cruises connect Paris with Normandy, blending culture, art and significant wartime history.

Beyond Europe, Mekong River Cruises immerse guests in the traditions of Vietnam and Cambodia through locally guided experiences. Nile River Cruises, by contrast, uncover the wonders of ancient Egypt, with expert Egyptologists bringing temples and monuments to life. Finally, Magdalena River Cruises introduce Colombia as an emerging destination in luxury river cruising.
