If you are looking for a small luxury cruise, this Azamara Journey review gives a clear and honest look at what it is actually like onboard.

Our cruise expert Andreia Silva recently sailed on Azamara Journey following its refurbishment, and what stood out straight away was not just the design, but how the ship feels from the moment you step onboard.

This is not a ship built around crowds or constant activity. Instead, it offers a quieter, more refined experience where space, service and destination take priority.

First impressions: a calmer way to cruise

From the moment you arrive, the difference is clear.

Embarkation is simple. There are no long queues or busy terminals. Instead, you step onboard and complete check-in directly on the ship.

Andreia described the experience as easy and refreshingly calm. With just over 700 guests onboard, there is a noticeable lack of crowds.

A refreshed ship that feels thoughtfully designed

Following the refurbishment, Azamara Journey feels elegant without being overdone.

The public spaces flow naturally, making it easy to move around without congestion.

This more relaxed pace also carries through to the itinerary itself. Our Azamara Journey Itinerary Review: Why Seville to Lisbon Feels Different explains how this plays out across the sailing.

Cabins: simple comfort with the option to upgrade

The cabins are comfortable and well designed.

While the bathrooms in standard cabins are smaller, Andreia found them perfectly functional. However, upgrading to a suite offers more space, a larger bathroom and added benefits like butler service.

A social atmosphere without the noise

The Den replaces the traditional casino and works well as a relaxed lounge.

The Living Room and Cabaret Lounge provide entertainment that feels engaging but never overwhelming.

Staying connected when you need to

The addition of Starlink Wi-Fi makes a noticeable difference.

Andreia found the connection fast and reliable throughout the cruise.

Dress code: relaxed but still refined

Azamara keeps things simple with a resort casual dress code and no formal nights.

Is Azamara Journey worth it

Azamara Journey offers a quieter, more personal cruise experience focused on destination rather than onboard attractions.

Dining is also a big part of the experience. Our Azamara Journey Dining Review: Food, Drinks and Is It Worth It looks at this in more detail.
