Douglas Mawson
The newest addition to the AE Expeditions fleet, Douglas Mawson brings the line's small-ship expedition experience to a new generation of adventures. Named after legendary Australian geologist and polar explorer Sir Douglas Mawson, the purpose-built ship entered service in 2025.
Douglas Mawson carries a maximum of 130 guests on expedition voyages, helping maintain the intimate atmosphere and efficient shore operations that are central to an AE Expeditions journey. On selected Small Ship Cruises outside the polar regions, capacity increases to a still-intimate maximum of 154 guests.
From the latest Ulstein X-BOW® design and dedicated expedition facilities to panoramic lounges, a heated outdoor pool and an expanded choice of accommodation, Douglas Mawson has been designed as a comfortable base for exploring both polar regions and remarkable destinations further afield.
What Makes Douglas Mawson Special?

AE's Newest Expedition Ship
Launched in 2025, Douglas Mawson is the newest of AE Expeditions' three purpose-built small ships. The latest Ulstein X-BOW® is designed to cut efficiently through waves, helping deliver smoother ocean crossings while reducing fuel consumption and environmental impact.

Heated Pool & Jacuzzis
Expedition cruising does not mean giving up time to unwind. Between adventures, head to the outdoor deck for a swim in the heated pool, relax in one of two Jacuzzis or enjoy a drink from the pool bar while taking in the scenery. A gym and sauna provide further options for relaxing and recharging.

More Stateroom Choice
Douglas Mawson offers AE Expeditions' widest range of accommodation, with ten different stateroom and suite types. These include dedicated single stateroom options alongside balcony cabins, spacious suites and connecting accommodation, making the ship particularly appealing to solo guests as well as couples and friends.
