Introducing Utopia of the Seas

Cruise News, Cruise Ships
Thursday, June 22, 2023

Are you ready to meet the newest of the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line fleet? The sixth ship in the Royal Caribbean’s Oasis Class Utopia of the Seas will launch in 2024, and she will also be one of the biggest cruise ships in the world.

About Utopia of the Seas

As an Oasis Class ship, she will be smaller than Icon of the Seas; however, that doesn’t mean that the ship won’t be packed to the brim with ways for passengers to relax, dine, and more. She will be a smaller ship than Icon of the Seas because she belongs to the Oasis Class, but the vessel will certainly still be packed to the brim with ways for passengers to dine, relax, and more.

When do sales open for Utopia of the Seas?

Customers will be able to book sailings onboard Utopia of the Seas starting TODAY June 22, 2023. Crown & Anchor Society loyalty members can start booking a day earlier so they were able to start booking yesterday June 22, 2023.

How Big is Utopia of the Seas?

Utopia of the Seas will be 1,188 feet long and weigh 236,860 gross registered tonnes, making her larger like Wonder of the Seas in comparison to the other Oasis Class vessels. Utopia of the Seas will have 2,834 staterooms and a capacity of 5,668 passengers at double occupancy.

Where will Utopia of the Seas sail from?

Utopia of the Seas is set to be the first Oasis Class cruise ship to be powered by Liquified Natural Gas, or LNG, it makes sense that her homeport will be Port Canaveral, Florida. With LNG being the cleanest fossil fuel in today’s world that can power ships, it has the potential to reduce sulfur emissions by nearly 100%, carbon emissions by around 30% as well as reducing nitrogen oxide emissions by around 85%

Where will Utopia of the Seas sail to?

As of today June 20, 2023, Royal Caribbean will announce more information regarding Utopia of the Seas‘ ports of call. She will begin sailing in July 2024 and will concentrate on short getaway itineraries from Port Canaveral. Utopia of the Seas will offer 3-night weekend voyages and 4-night weekday trips of 3 and 4 nights. The two itineraries will include stops at Nassau and Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay, which the adults-only Hideaway Beach is planned to open in 2024.

Utopia of the Seas neighbourhoods & layout

If Royal Caribbean doesn’t decide to purchase another Oasis Class ship in the future then Utopia of the Seas will be the final ship in the Oasis Class completing it.

There will be a selection of brand-new venues, staterooms and other features that you won’t find on any of the other Oasis Class ships. Royal Caribbean would not launch the biggest and boldest Oasis Class ship without making some modifications. The ship will of course still have similarities to other Oasis Class ships though.

The same as other Oasis Class ships, Utopia of the Seas will have the following neighbourhoods:

The Boardwalk

Pool & Sports Zone

Central Park

Here guests will find the fan-favourite Playmakers, carousel, and, of course, AquaTheater

This neighbourhood will feature a Caribbean-style pool deck and a three-story Lime and Coconut Bar.

In Central Park guests will find the only Izumi in the Park on any Oasis Class ship. This is a concept taken from the Icon of the Seas.

The Royal Promenade

Entertainment Place

Youth Zone

This area is the main passage on Utopia of the Seas.

Entertainment Place is the entertainment hub of all Oasis Class ships. Here, you can find the comedy club, casino, theatre, etc.

The Youth Zone says it in the name – it is home to Adventure Ocean programming, an arcade, and the expansive teen club.

Vitality Spa & Fitness

Suite Neighborhood

This is Royal Caribbean’s signature spa that offers treatments and services ranging from bamboo massages to pedicures. The fitness centre is also available here at no extra cost.

The Suite Neighbourhood has been taken from Wonder of the Seas. This area is an exclusive enclave for suite guests who are hoping to enhance their cruising experience.

Utopia of the Seas Dining Options

Now comes the exciting bit – food options onboard! As with all of the other Royal Caribbean ships, there are so many different dining venues that you really will be spoilt for choice onboard Utopia of the Seas.

There will be over 40 ways to drink and dine in total when onboard Utopia of the Seas, ranging from the complimentary Windjammer to brand-new concepts, such as the immersive train car and Pesky Parrot bar. You will also be able to enjoy 16 cuisines from around the world.

With 10 complimentary dining options, it is possible to not spend a penny extra on dining outside of what is included in your base fare. Start your mornings at the Windjammer and grab a snack at the full-size food truck before indulging in a three-course meal at the Main Dining Room.

There will be 11 specialty venues onboard, you may want to splurge on sushi in Central Park (a first on any Oasis Class ship), bar food at Playmakers, southern comfort dishes at The Mason Jar, and much more.

Utopia of the Seas complimentary dining venues are as follows:

  • Main Dining Room
  • Windjammer Cafe

Although the Bionic Bar will be replaced with the Pesky Parrot, a brand-new Caribbean tiki bar which will serve tropical beverages both on the rocks and frozen, perfect for a Caribbean itinerary.

On top of this there will also be mini-golf, two rock climbing walls, a zip line, and the longest Ultimate Abyss dry slide yet, which will be 43 feet longer than previous incarnations spanning multiple decks. This will make it the longest dry slide at sea. Plus, it has been reworked to be even faster than previous ones for the whole family to be thrilled by!

Utopia of the Seas will have two casinos onboard which will have 371 slot machines combined! The standard casino, which will permit smoking, will have roughly 539 seats, while the non-smoking casino will have around 64.

Other activities onboard Utopia of the Seas:

  • Splashaway Bay

Where is Utopia of the Seas being Constructed?

The ship began construction in April 2022 and is under construction at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France.

When will Utopia of the Seas set sail?

Utopia of the Seas is scheduled for passengers to start sailing onboard 19th July 2024, with her inaugural sailing out of Port Canaveral (Orlando). The ship was recently delivered to Royal Caribbean in the June 2024. This means that the transfer of ownership of the ship from the shipyard to the buyer (Royal Caribbean) will take place then but her inaugural sailing won’t take place until a later date. The delivery of the vessel will mark an important milestone in the construction process of Utopia of the Seas.
