MS Vesterålen

For travellers drawn to the heritage of the Coastal Express, MS Vesterålen offers Hurtigruten at its most traditional and intimate. Built in 1983 and thoughtfully refurbished in 2025, she carries just 274 overnight guests and retains much of her classic maritime character, with polished wood, brass details and Norwegian art throughout. Facilities are simpler than on the larger ships, with two restaurants, comfortable lounges, generous outdoor decks and a fitness room, but that is part of her appeal. Bridge visits, closer contact with the crew and the working rhythm of the coastal route make the journey itself the focus.
