New York Port Guide

New York is a city that needs no introduction. Having been held in high regard as a major tourist hot spot for as long as we can remember (and quite rightly so), there’s so much to explore in this atmospheric city you won’t know where to start. Each of its five famous boroughs are bustling with spectacular sights, fragrant street food, buzzing market stalls and a line-up of restaurants, bars, cafes and independent shops – meaning each day spent in the city will undoubtedly differ from the last, yet maintain the excitement. Whether you’re visiting to tick off the world-famous landmarks that dominate the skyline, to browse the luxurious stores that fringe Fifth Avenue, or to wander the city’s beautiful oasis that is Central Park, it’s a destination you’ll remember for a lifetime.

The only thing better than a fast-paced city break in NYC, is hopping on a luxurious cruise for lazier days somewhere more exotic. So if you’re looking for the best of both, you’ll certainly find it here…

When is the best time to cruise from New York?

You can sail out of one of New York’s three cruise terminals at pretty much any time of the year. Autumn is a particular highlight for Fall Foliage cruises from New York to Canada & New England. Or, if you want to pair an exciting city break with a tropical beach retreat, why not consider a cruise to Bermuda or Bahamas during the winter months?

Which cruise lines sail from New York?

A few of the main cruise lines that sail from New York include Cunard, NCL, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity Cruises, Carnival and Princess Cruises. MSC Cruises have also recently announced that they will have a ship homeporting from the Big Apple.

Where do cruises from New York go to?

There are multiple cruises out of New York to choose from, depending on what type of holiday you’re seeking. Wave goodbye to the hustle and bustle in city that never sleeps and set sail on a Cunard iconic transatlantic cruise to Southampton onboard the Queen Mary 2. Autumn is a popular season for cruises to sail to Canada and New England, while you can also discover some of the world’s most exotic destinations with Bermuda and Bahama cruises from NYC, too.

What should you do whilst you’re in New York?

Ah, the city that never sleeps. There’s truly something for everybody in NYC, whether you’re visiting for its culture, famous landmarks, iconic art museums, parks, or for the food (oh, the food), you’ll discover something new every single day that you roam this exciting city. The best place to start is by fuelling up at one of the many mouth-watering eateries – you’ll certainly need the energy. Iconic food experiences include the Time Out Market, Absolute Bagels, Peter Luger Steak House, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Motorino Pizza, Otto’s Tacos – the list goes on, but we think we’ve covered the most important food groups here.

Itinerary lovers can head up the Empire State Building for some of the best panoramic views from the towering observation deck, visit the American Museum of Natural History, shop for bargains at the Brooklyn Flea Market, and sail around the famous Statue of Liberty on a ferry ride to Ellis Island. Novel lovers must visit the almost century-old Strand Book Store, stacked with over 2.5 million shelf-worthy titles, while animal lovers – or those with the kids in tow – can spend an afternoon at the fascinating Bronx Zoo, featuring over 700 different species across 265 acres of pretty parkland!

Whatever you decide to do while you’re visiting New York, your luxurious cruise will be waiting for you once you’re done exploring.

Extend your stay?

This famous city makes a great base whether you want to extend your stay and admire its atmospheric squares or discover equally enthralling neighbouring destinations. Add on a stay in Boston – the capital of Massachusetts can be easily reached via train, where you can explore lush landscapes including the Boston Common and its public botanical garden, catch live music at the free waterfront concerts at Rowes Wharf, and indulge in the fantastic food scene – a visit to the Time Out Market is a must. Or if Niagara Falls happens to be on your bucket list, take a short flight to Toronto and experience this majestic attraction for yourself.
