Hurtigruten Dining - Signature Menu

Hurtigruten Dining & Norway’s Coastal Kitchen

Dining with Hurtigruten is designed to bring you closer to the places outside the window. Through Norway’s Coastal Kitchen, ingredients are sourced from producers along the route, allowing menus to change with the seasons and regions as you travel from fjords and fishing communities towards Arctic Norway.

Whether you are enjoying full-board dining on the Original Coastal Express or the wider choice included on a Signature voyage, expect Norwegian ingredients, regional recipes and restaurants that make food part of the journey rather than simply something served along the way.

Taste the coast as you travel

Norway’s Coastal Kitchen

Hurtigruten works with around 70 farms, fisheries, bakeries and other local producers through Norway’s Coastal Kitchen, sourcing ingredients from communities along the Norwegian coast. Depending on the season and where you are sailing, menus might feature king crab from Finnmark, seaweed harvested in Lofoten, Norwegian cheeses, locally grown herbs or fish from the waters through which you are travelling.

That close connection between place and plate gives dining a natural rhythm. As the scenery changes outside, so can the ingredients arriving in the galley, turning breakfast, lunch and dinner into another way of following Norway north and south.

Hurtigruten - Dining Torget Restaurant Lunch

Full board with a distinctly Norwegian flavour

Dining on the Original Coastal Express

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included on full Original Coastal Express voyages, with Torget at the heart of the dining experience. Breakfast combines hot dishes with breads, fruit, cereals and Norwegian favourites, while lunch makes use of seasonal produce and dinner brings a choice of three-course menus inspired by the coast.

Meals feel informal and closely connected to the journey. You might sit down to dinner after an afternoon exploring a coastal town, then look beyond the restaurant windows to see the same islands, mountains and waters that helped inspire what is on your plate.

The heart of Coastal Express dining

Torget

Torget is Hurtigruten’s main restaurant on the Original Coastal Express, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner throughout the journey. Menus balance Norwegian classics with contemporary dishes, including meat, fish and plant-based choices, using seasonal produce wherever possible.

Its name means “marketplace”, which fits Hurtigruten’s approach particularly well. The restaurant brings together ingredients from different parts of Norway just as the ship itself brings together the communities scattered along the coast.

Hurtigruten - Dining Dinner in Kysten, A La Carte

Something different when the moment calls for it

Kysten, Brygga and Multe

Beyond Torget, many Coastal Express ships offer other ways to dine. Kysten is Hurtigruten’s elegant à la carte restaurant, focusing on premium Norwegian ingredients, while Brygga offers a more relaxed bistro experience with dishes such as sandwiches, salads, pizzas and burgers. Multe is the onboard bakery and café, serving pastries, open sandwiches, coffee and ice cream, including flavours inspired by Norway.

These venues sit outside the standard full-board experience unless included through a particular package or suite benefit. They give you the freedom to add something different, whether that is a special dinner in Kysten or simply coffee and something sweet while another fjord appears beyond the windows.

All-Inclusive Dining on Signature Voyages

Dining becomes more inclusive on Hurtigruten’s Signature voyages, where breakfast, lunch, dinner and afternoon snacks are part of the fare alongside selected drinks. Three distinct restaurants bring different sides of Norwegian cuisine to the journey: Flora, Brasserie Árran and fine-dining restaurant Røst. It suits the slower pace of The North Cape Line and The Svalbard Line. With longer stays in selected ports and more included onboard, there is time to linger over lunch, try another restaurant in the evening and let food become one of the experiences you remember from the voyage.

Hurtigruten Dining - Flora

Flora

Flora is the main restaurant on Hurtigruten’s Signature ships, serving buffet breakfasts and lunches followed by à la carte dinners. Menus celebrate Norwegian herbs, berries and seasonal ingredients inspired by the coast.

Brasserie Árran

Brasserie Árran offers relaxed Nordic dining inspired by Sámi traditions and northern Norway. Comforting dishes and warm interiors make it an inviting place to unwind and discover Arctic flavours after a day ashore.

Røst Fine Dining

Røst is Hurtigruten’s fine-dining restaurant on Signature voyages, showcasing premium Norwegian ingredients in an intimate setting. Dining is included for Signature suite guests, while other guests may be able to upgrade.

Local, Seasonal and More Sustainable

Hurtigruten’s focus on local sourcing is about more than flavour. Buying ingredients close to the route can reduce transportation and refrigeration requirements, while menus are designed around what is available locally and seasonally.

Food waste from the fleet is also taken to a specially designed compost reactor in Stamsund in the Lofoten Islands, where it can be turned into fertiliser and used to grow food again. It creates a fitting cycle for a dining philosophy built around the coast itself.

Hurtigruten Dining - Bartender in 1893 Bar

Norwegian Drinks and the View from the Bar

Food is only part of Hurtigruten’s Norwegian story. On Original Coastal Express ships, the Explorer Bar combines panoramic views with Norwegian beers, wines, aquavit, premium coffee and other drinks, creating an inviting spot to watch the coastline drift past.

Signature voyages include selected wines, beers, spirits, cocktails and soft drinks during opening hours across the restaurants and 1893 Bar. You might find yourself trying Norwegian aquavit, locally inspired cocktails or even beer made using water sourced from Trollfjord while the landscape that inspired it passes outside.

Vegetarian, Vegan and Dietary Options

Hurtigruten offers vegetarian and plant-based dishes, including vegan choices at lunch and dinner, so exploring Norwegian cuisine does not have to mean relying on fish and meat. Other dietary requirements can also be catered for, although guests with allergies or specific needs should make Hurtigruten aware before travelling.

Menus naturally vary between ships, seasons and voyages, which is part of the appeal. Rather than expecting exactly the same dishes every time, the food is designed to reflect what is available and where in Norway you happen to be.

Discover Norway One Plate at a Time

There are many ways to experience the Norwegian coast. You can stand outside beneath the Midnight Sun, watch mountains rise beside the ship or step ashore into communities that have lived beside these waters for generations.

With Hurtigruten, you can also taste your way along it. From breakfast in Torget to Norwegian fine dining in Røst, freshly baked pastries in Multe or a drink overlooking the fjords, Norway’s Coastal Kitchen gives the journey another flavour entirely.
