Elephant Hills Jungle & Lake Safari FAQs

This unique experience allows you to get incredibly close to Asian elephants in an almost untouched environment. You'll learn about the Elephant Hills elephant conservation project and the role of the mahouts (elephant caretakers). A highlight involves preparing and feeding the elephants one of their daily meals, including dietary supplements for their well-being. This is a hands-on, interactive, and deeply touching encounter, focusing on ethical interaction rather than riding.

You'll spend one night in a luxury safari tent at The Elephant Camp and one night in a luxury tent at the floating Lake Camp (Elephant Hills Rainforest Camp). Both offer comfortable beds, reading lights, hot water, and Western-style toilets. The tents are well-ventilated and equipped with mosquito netting and canvas flaps for your comfort. The floating tents on Cheow Larn Lake also feature private en-suite bathrooms and solar/wind-powered electricity.

Your stay at Elephant Hills is packed with activities, you can choose how many you wish to take part in of course. It includes an ethical elephant experience (feeding and interacting), a canoe safari down the Sok River, a boat trip on Cheow Larn Lake by traditional longtail boat, jungle trekking, and a guided canoe safari for wildlife spotting. Evening activities offer movie presentations, traditional Thai dance performances by local school children, and cooking demonstrations. Please note, activities are subject to weather and local conditions and may change.

The Khao Sok and Cheow Larn Lake areas are rich in biodiversity. From your canoe or during trekking, you might spot hornbill birds, various reptiles, wild elephants, the rare Asian ox, hundreds of other tropical birds, and different monkey species. The rainforest is also home to amphibians, and even elusive tigers and leopards.

The jungle trekking allows you to explore the unique rainforest on foot. While the trail can be steep at times and slippery when wet, it is not an army survival exercise. Guides are available to assist, and the pace is set for observation and learning about the rainforest's ecology, plants, and wildlife. The trek is completely optional, so if you wish to relax by the lake you can of course do so.

For Elephant Hills, please bring non-slip shoes (sturdy sandals or trainers), loose comfortable clothes, sun protection, a raincoat (disposable ones available for purchase), swimwear (for the pool or river), and personal toiletries. Don't forget your passport for check-in.
