Last year Norwegian Cruise Line announced that it would be renaming its new Leonardo-class of ships when it was announced that Norwegian Prima would become the first of a future six vessels in this brand new class of ships to be released. With a new vessel set to be released every year from now until 2027 we knew it wouldn’t be long until the next ship name would be released.
In 2019 Norwegian Cruise Line filed trademarks for several potential ship names, including Norwegian Aqua, Norwegian Luna, Norwegian Aura and Norwegian Ultima. Since Prima means first in Italian and Ultima means last, it would be safe to guess that Norwegian Ultima is likely to be the sixth and last ship in this new class to enter service in a few years time. However, today it was announced that the next Prima-class ship to enter service will be the Norwegian Viva!
When will Norwegian Viva enter service?
Norwegian Viva’s inaugural voyage is scheduled for the 15th of June 2023 departing from Lisbon in Portugal. This 9-night sailing will visit Malaga, Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona in Spain, Marseille and Nice in France, as well as the Italian ports of Livorno (for tours to Florence and Pisa) and Civitavecchia the port for Rome.
Where will Norwegian Viva be sailing?
On the 15th of June Norwegian Prima will embark on a 9-night sailing from Lisbon, exploring the Spanish Costas and French Riviera before arriving in the port of Civitavecchia just outside of the Italian capital Rome. From there she will begin another 9-night cruise exploring Italy, Malta, Greece, Croatia and Slovenia before arriving in Venice on the 3rd of July. From here she’ll spend the next 9 days exploring Croatia, the Greek Isles and Turkey before arriving in Athens from where the next 9-night cruise begins as she heads back to Rome. From Rome Norwegian Viva retraces her maiden voyages to Lisbon before hugging the Iberian peninsula northbound for Southampton. Sadly for UK cruisers her stay in Southampton is brief as Norwegian Viva then heads back to the Mediterranean where she will spend the rest of her maiden season hopping from the Western to Eastern Med all the way through until November.
On the 16th of November 2023 Norwegian Viva will embark on a transatlantic crossing from Lisbon to New York, before repositioning to San Juan on the island of Puerto Rico. This will be Norwegian Viva’s home for her maiden winter season in the Caribbean from where guests will be able to enjoy 7-night cruises visiting a new port every single day! These fantastic itineraries include some of the Caribbean’s most popular cruise destinations including the islands of Tortola, Antigua, Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten and St. Thomas. Norwegian Viva will remain in the Caribbean until the middle of April 2024 at which point she will head back across the Atlantic for another summer season in Europe.
What can we expect to experience onboard Norwegian Viva?
As you will have discovered in our previous Norwegian Prima blog, Norwegian Viva will showcase many brand new features which we’re very much looking forward to experiencing for ourselves, such as Ocean Boulevard, the 44,000 square foot outdoor walk way which wraps around the entire ship; Indulge Food Hall featuring 11 varieties of eateries; The Concourse boasting an outdoor sculpture garden; expansive pool decks and infinity style pools at Infinity Beach and Oceanwalk, showcasing glass bridges above water.
Norwegian Viva sets the standard in the premium segment, illustrating our commitment to pushing boundaries in four main areas: wide open space, service that puts guests first, thoughtful design and experiences beyond expectation. We have taken everything our guests love to the next level with this brand-new class of ships designed with them in mind.
