Celebrity Ascent may be the final ship in the Edge-class series, however, she’s been a ship full of firsts, as we edge ever closer to her maiden sailing. Earlier in the year it was announced that Celebrity Ascent would be the first ship to have two brothers as co-captains, and now we’ve received the news that the latest ship to join the Celebrity Cruises fleet is set to be the first ever vessel to have two sisters as co-godmothers!
With the announcement coming on National Sisters Day, Celebrity Cruises have indeed found the perfect pair for this incredible honour: Captain Sandy Yawn, star of Bravo’s “Below Deck,” and her sister, Michelle Dunham, founder and executive director of a nonprofit school for children with autism will be the first ever sisters to be co-godmothers of a cruise ship.
Michelle is the successful founder and executive director of a nonprofit school for children with autism. What started as a mission to help her son is now helping more than 100 students reach their full potential. Captain Sandy is an advocate for women in the maritime industry, children’s education, children with disabilities, and the environment. She draws on her life experiences in life and at sea to inspire others.
Captain Sandy is no stranger to Celebrity Cruises, in fact, those following her on social media will be familiar with her friendship with Celebrity Beyond‘s Captain Kate McCue. Back in April 2022, during Celebrity Beyond‘s shakedown sailing, Captain Sandy was onboard, exploring the ship, and even bumping into Marco from the Paramount Cruises team.
