At Paramount Cruises, we recognize that we have a social, cultural and environmental responsibility to respect and preserve our planet’s waters. No single industry relies upon the beauty of the planet’s oceans and seas, more than the cruise industry.
As a result, our vision is to be part of the solution to help safeguard the world’s oceans for future generations to come. We’re committed to this endeavor, not only because the environment is fundamental to the success of our industry but because it’s the right thing to do. With this in mind, we are proud to announce Plastic Oceans (http://plasticoceans.uk/) as our official charity partner.
Plastic Oceans, in 2016, produced an award-winning documentary entitled “A Plastic Ocean” exploring the fragile state of our oceans and uncovering alarming truths about plastic pollution while revealing working solutions that are being put into immediate effect.
The problem of plastic pollution is growing exponentially every year. We produce more than 300 million tons of plastic every year, half of which is designed for single use. Each year around 8 million tons of it ends up in our oceans.
We hope to add to the great work already being done within the cruise industry to tackle this global issue. Cruise ships boast some of the most innovative recycling methods. Our industry recycles more than 80,000 tons of plastic, aluminum and glass every year. The global cruise industry has invested billions of pounds in new technologies and cleaner fuels to reduce emissions. Many cruise lines are also leading the way in tackling the problem of single use plastics. We are proud to be members of CLIA (Cruise Lines International Association), who share our vision to protect and maintain clean oceans and beaches now, and for future generations.
We will make a small donation for every booking we make, and encourage our valued customers to opt into matching this small donation. Together we can help create a wave of change.
