First Impressions<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I recently spent five nights onboard AmaWaterways’ AmaMora sailing along the Danube, and the experience reminded me how enjoyable river cruising can be. After several ocean cruises in recent years, I had forgotten how calm and personal a river ship feels. From the moment I stepped onboard, the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming, and the whole experience felt effortless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seeing AmaMora in Vilshofen, I was impressed by how elegant she looked despite her smaller size. Inside, the ship felt bright and fresh, and the crew created a warm environment from the first moment. The lounge felt inviting, the Chef\u2019s Table restaurant offered an intimate setting, and the main restaurant was comfortable and spotless. Everything was easy to navigate, which made settling in simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cabins on AmaMora<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I stayed in an Oceanview stateroom with two lower-level windows. Although the view was limited, the cabin was comfortable and well designed with more space than I expected for a river ship. The bathroom was excellent with a rainforest-style shower, strong pressure and good lighting. Storage was generous with a large wardrobe, shelving and room under the bed for luggage. The desk area included a TV with daily updates, and the two chairs were useful for relaxing or organising belongings. The cabin worked well as a twin but would feel even more open as a double. Anyone wanting to enjoy the scenery from their room should consider a French Balcony or a higher category cabin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dining Onboard<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Dining onboard AmaMora was consistently enjoyable. Breakfast offered both light and hot options, including cooked-to-order choices such as omelettes and Eggs Benedict. Lunch often featured dishes inspired by the towns we visited. I enjoyed trying local items such as K\u00e4sesp\u00e4tzle and Linzer Torte, which added a nice connection to the destinations. Dinner was a traditional sit-down experience with several choices for each course, and the quality remained high throughout the sailing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AmaWaterways also stood out for how well they catered for dietary needs. Members of our group with specific requirements met the chef on the first evening and received personalised menus each morning. This level of care made their experience completely stress-free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Chef\u2019s Table<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Chef\u2019s Table was one of the highlights of the trip. The restaurant has an open kitchen, which creates an intimate and engaging atmosphere. The seven-course tasting menu was excellent, and each dish was introduced by the head waiter. The wine pairing worked beautifully with the food and made the evening feel special.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sip and Sail Hour<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Each evening before dinner, the lounge hosted the Sip and Sail hour. Guests enjoyed a cocktail or a non alcoholic drink with small canapes while the cruise director outlined the plans for the following day. It was a lovely way to unwind and created a relaxed start to the evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Exploring the Danube<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Exploring each destination was incredibly easy because AmaMora docked close to the centre of every town. Excursions were well organised and offered a good mix of sightseeing and gentle walking. I joined several wellness walks led by a member of the wellness team, which were both informative and enjoyable. The scenery along the route was beautiful, and sailing through the Wachau Valley was a standout moment of the entire week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Onboard Facilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although AmaMora is a small ship, she offers everything needed for a comfortable river cruise. The gym is well equipped for a holiday workout, and the massage room provides an extra touch of relaxation. The heated pool on the top deck is a lovely spot to watch the scenery pass by. I used the pool while we sailed through the Wachau Valley, and the warm water combined with the cool air created a memorable moment. The lounge is a great place to relax during the day, and the top deck offers wonderful views when the weather is good.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The guest mix onboard was varied and the atmosphere suited adults who enjoy culture, food and relaxed exploring. The cruise is not aimed at younger children because the excursions and onboard activities are focused on adults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is AmaMora Good Value<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

AmaWaterways offers strong value when you consider what is included. Most excursions form part of the fare, and wine, beer and soft drinks are available with lunch and dinner. The Sip and Sail hour adds even more to the experience, and the service throughout the week was excellent. The calm feeling on board and the personal touches from the crew created a holiday that felt peaceful from start to finish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Final Thoughts<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I enjoyed the sailing so much that I am already planning a Christmas Markets river cruise in the future. The Danube is a beautiful part of Europe, and AmaMora provided a fantastic introduction to river cruising. The combination of scenery, food, service and ease of travel makes this ship an ideal choice for anyone wanting a relaxed and comfortable holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
