Pretty much every cruise line sets sail from Venice, from mainstream brands such as MSC<\/a>, NCL <\/a>and Royal Caribbean<\/a>, to luxury cruise lines such as Silversea <\/a>and Seabourn <\/a>\u2013 so you\u2019ll have plenty of choice. Following the ban on large cruise ships in Venice, cruise ships now actually depart from alternative ports in the region. Some of the nearby ports that serve as departure points for cruises include Trieste, Ravenna, Monfalcone and Marghera.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can visit some of the most beautiful places in Europe and beyond when you embark on a cruise from Venice. Some of the most popular destinations on the list include those on the Dalmatian Coast, Greek Isles and Eastern Mediterranean<\/a>, while some of the more boutique itineraries may whisk you further to destinations such as Israel or Egypt. What should you do whilst you’re in Venice?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Home to a wealth of history, culture, and art, it\u2019s no surprise Venice is one of the most popular destinations to visit in Italy. There are innumerable things to see and do in this jam-packed pocket of Italy, whether you\u2019re on a couple\u2019s city break or have the little ones in tow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even if you do nothing but wander the atmospheric streets in Venice, you\u2019ll still be amazed by the magnificent architecture that line its cobbles, from the sights at Piazza San Marco to the thriving Rialto markets. While you\u2019re here, you must tick off some of the city\u2019s most iconic landmarks, including the Basilica di San Marco (a Byzantine marvel), Doge\u2019s Palace and Bridge of Sighs, and of course the Rialto Bridge. History lovers will be in their element.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Running through the heart of the city is the Canale Grande (Grand Canal), where visitors can hop on a traditional gondola and admire the city from the water – passing Venetian Palaces and Gothic and Early Renaissance Facades as you go. Or, why not book a moonlit gondola tour instead? It\u2019s one of the most romantic things to do in Venice at night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s basically a crime to visit Italy without indulging in the local cuisine (in our humble opinion), so be sure you pack your appetite. Head to All\u2019Arco, a buzzing hole-in-the-wall style eatery where you\u2019ll find stacks of drool-worthy cicchetti (tapas), or for a meal with a view head to Ristorante Riviera for its mouth-watering pasta dishes by the water! If you\u2019ve got cash to splash, dine at Local, where you\u2019ll find a host of gastronomic wonders crafted by Chef Matteo Tagliapietra (most famous for working in Nobu and Noma).<\/p>\n\n\n
