Similar to a groundbreaking ceremony for a new building, the steel-cutting ceremony signifies that after years of planning, the formal beginning of the construction of a new ship is underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountcruises.com\/cruises\/royal-caribbean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Royal Caribbean<\/a> and Meyer Turku teams working on the second <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountcruises.com\/cruises\/royal-caribbean\/icon-of-the-seas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Icon-class ship<\/a>, scheduled to make its debut in 2025, were present at the ceremony as it is typical to involve the executives of the cruise line and the shipyard coming together. At 250,800 GT, it will overtake <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountcruises.com\/cruises\/royal-caribbean\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Royal Caribbean&#8217;s<\/a> own Oasis class <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountcruises.com\/cruises\/royal-caribbean\/wonder-of-the-seas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wonder of the Seas<\/a> as the largest cruise ship in the world by gross tonnage. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.paramountcruises.com\/cruises\/royal-caribbean\/icon-of-the-seas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Icon of the Seas<\/a> will have a maximum
